There’s a saying, “The speed of the group is the speed of the slowest.”
Bottlenecks in communication – traffic jams – which are felt as frustration – usually occur at crossroads, points where multiple groups are connected in some way, which slow down the whole company, because one person or group is responsible for too much work from too many different places.
When bottlenecks happen, redesign the street map of responsibility.

A graphic designer is responsible for handling design requests from five different departments. He’s always rushed with work, says his designs could be much better if he had time, and his stress affects his coworkers, until one day he quits.
Instead of just hiring another designer to fill his place, find a better way to coordinate design requests from the five departments. And if you can sincerely ask the guy who quit what he recommends to make the job better for the next guy, he’ll probably have some good ideas you wouldn’t think of.
